I was already grateful to have one sunny day in Vienna, but waking up on the second day to sunshine was an added bonus. We had already planned what we wanted to do with our day (definitely a top tip if you have limited time somewhere and want check off everything on your wish list), so we started off spending our morning at Schonbrunn Palace, this is one of the famous palace’s here and the summer residence of the Imperial Family – crazy to think this would only be used for the summer!
We did an audio tour, which can often be quite tedious but this one was definitely worth doing for an insight into the family and the building. Then we explored the grounds and gardens, they were beautiful and the perfect place to spend a sunny day.
So the day ended up to be centred around palaces as we moved on to Belvedere, we had heard more about Schonnbrunn and thought it couldn’t be topped and this was reconfirmed when we arrived at the Belvedere entrance which although was still beautiful, was slightly underwhelming, but as we had planned to spend the afternoon there we thought we might as well stroll around and check out the rest… and we were so glad we did.
The gardens leading up to the Palace were all lined with trees and different water fountains, it really was breathtaking and felt like we had just stepped onto a movie set. After spending about an hour wandering around we headed over the Spanish riding school for a tour. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take any pictures inside but the arena was stunning and not like any riding school you would have seen before.
We completed our day by wandering around to a few of our favourite spots one last time followed by a lovely meal and then more strolling through the city centre in the dark, its my favourite time to wander because its so much quieter and you get a completely different feel at nighttime!
